[edit] Summary
Description |
Trypsinogen (left) vs. Trypsin with trypsin inhibitor (right).
On the left: Trypsinogen (2ptc) with an extra piece of protein (green, only two amino acids are seen).
On the right: After clipping it off by the enteropeptidase in the intestine, the new end of the chain (purple) tucks into the folded Trypsin protein (1tgs) and stabilize the active form of the enzyme. As extra insurance, the pancreas also makes a small protein, trypsin inhibitor (red), that binds to any traces of active trypsin that might be present before it is secreted into the intestine. It binds to the active site of trypsin, blocking its action but not itself being cut into tiny pieces.
