That's me again (with my poor French again :)). Could you correct text about Polish MiG's? I'm not able to do it because I'm affraid that my "French" wouldn't be understandable for Francophones.

Poland withdrawn all of it's MiG's-21 till end of December 2003. Our Air Force should recive first F-16's in 2006, today only type of fighter in our Army is MiG-29 (45 machines) (some fighter capabilities has also ground-attack 88 Su-22, but it's not a machine for those purposes). Short version of long story

Well I have information for 31 July 2001: MiG's-21 were in:

  • 1 Korpus Obrony Powietrznej (1st Air Defence Corps)
    • 1 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego "Warszawa" (1st Fighter Regiment "Warszawa") based in Mińsk Mazowiecki had 12 MiG-21PFM and 3 MiG-21US
    • 10 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (10th Fighter Reg.) based in Łask, 22 MiG-21PFM/M/MF and 5 Mig-21UM
  • 2 Korpus Obrony Powietrznej (2nd Air Defence Corps)
    • 2 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego "Kraków" (2nd Fighter Reg. "Kraków") based in Goleniów, 24 MiG-21M/MF and 5 MiG-21UM
    • 9 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (9th Fight. Reg.) based in Zegrze Pomorskie: 26 MiG-21bis and 6 MiG-21UM
    • 28 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (28th Fight. Reg.) based in Słupsk-Radzikowo: 31 MiG-23MF and 6 MiG-23UM
    • 41 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (41st Fight. Reg.) based in Malbork: 24 MiG-21MF, 6 MiG-21UM
  • 3 Korpus Obrony Powietrznej (3rd Air Defence Corps)
    • 11 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (11th Fight. Reg.) based in Wrocław-Strachowice (one of squadrons temporary on airfield in Mięrzyce in place of disbanded 39th. Fight. Reg. ): 24 MiG-21M and 5 MiG-21UM
    • 62 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (62nd Fight. Reg.) based in Poznań-Krzesiny: 26 MiG-21PFM amd 6 Mig-21US
  • Lotnictwo Marynarki Wojennej (Naval Air Force)
    • 34 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwskiego (34th Fight. Reg.) based in Gdynia-Babie Doły: 32 MiG-21bis and 6 MiG-21UM
  • Units directly subordinated to Dowództwo Wojsk Lotniczych i Obrony Powietrznej (Command of Air Forces and Air Defence)
    • 32 Pułk Lotniczy Rozpoznania Taktycznego (32nd Tactical Reconnaissance Regiment) based in Sochaczew: 24 MiG-21R and 6 MiG-21UM
    • 45 Lotnicza Eskadra Doświadczalna (45th Experimental Squadron): based in Modlin: 1 MiG-21PFM and 1 MiG-21MF

And what about service... well in 50's basic fighters of Polish army were MiG's-15 and MiG's-17. In 1959 Poland recived small number of MiG's-19 but since 1963 MiG-21 became basic fighter that replaced almost all MiG-15 and MiG-17 (not all of them, because Poland produced ground-attack version of MiG-17 - Lim-6bis which, with two seat Lim-2sb - Polish produced MiG-15UTI, were in service to early 90's) MiG's-19 were withdrawn in 1976. In years 1979-1982 Poland bought small number of MiG's-23, but due to problems with parts (and small number of them, there were only one regiment of those planes - 28th Fight. Reg. from Naval Air Force) there were withdrawn in 1999, so MiG's-21 were again only fighters. In 1990 Poland recived 12 single-sit and 2 two-sit MiG's-29. In 1991 we geted from USRR 2 and 1 more. Later, rest of them were bought from Czech Republic and Germany.

Then were few reorganisations of Air Forces (one of them was disbanding all Regiments onto separate Squadrons and Air Bases), Poland join to NATO.

In 1995 competiton for new multirole fighter was anouncment. At the begining there were 4 competitors: MiG-29, Mirage 2000, F-16 and Gripen. MiG withdrawn it's offer in short time, so 3 of them left. In 2002 F-16 became winner before Gripen (I was counting on this plane :)) on 2nd place and Mirage on 3rd. Till December 2003 all MiG's-21 were withdrawn.

In 2006 first F-16 should start its service in 3 eskadra lotnictwa taktycznego (3rd Tactical Sqd.) - continuation of traditions of 62nd Fight. Reg., till this day their basic machine is... en:PZL TS-11 Iskra (don't ask me why our goverment left our Air Force only with this small number of MiG's-29).

THE END ;)Radomil 18 septembre 2005 à 23:54 (CEST)

[modifier] J-7 /F-7 chinois
