[modifier] Cromer

Salut!Philippe Giabbanelli Please explain why this small section of text is wrong! It came from Bournemouth#Sites touristiques I just subsituted Bournemouth for Cromer as the explantation is the same and fits both piers, is the paragraphe wrong on the Bournmouth pageMarkthefrog (d) 25 avril 2008 à 19:01 (CEST)

On Bournmouth, it is written as follows:
La plage de Bournemouth et son Pier, une grande et large jetée dans la mer qui contient des bars, une salle de fêtes, des animations en été.
Pier is an english word, and there exists a french word that suits is very well, which is jetée. So, the sentence basically means: "the beach of Bournemouth and its pier, a long and large pier in the sea". That's quite awkward... Furthermore, contients means that whatever follows in the sentence is IN the previous subject, like in a box. So, the pier does not really "hold" bars and parties. It is more correct to say that we can find there bars and this kind of things, and that parties happen during summer. These are the reasons for which I changed the sentence. To answer directly to your question, I think that the sentence is badly written on Bournmouth. It might come from an automatic translation or somebody who just didn't think too much about what he was writting.
Another point is that the more we dig into it, and the more we find out that a bunch of pages on the french wikipedia are actually corrupted with bad "automatic" translations. This concerns mainly pages for which few people actually care, such as little villages here and there. So, copying stuff from it is more like spreading a disease... It might take more time, but if you want to make useful complement, I already told you the better way for that: you tell us what you think is relevant, and we'll try to find the time to translate it. We appreciate your effort and all those pictures, but for the text, well, that'd be better if we could aim at a higher quality. That might be a little picky, but I think it's better to have a reasonable yet controlled growth of the content.
Oh and, by the way, that would be nice if you could restore some of the stuff that we wrote on your page. I think it's useful to show that you've been doing automatic translations by the past. If the problem happens again, it will be easier for somebody to know that's going on. Philippe Giabbanelli (d) 25 avril 2008 à 19:17 (CEST)
Thank you for your response. I understand your concerns. I have now stopped using translating software. If I want to add text to a page I will ask you to check the grammer (Formatt) with you first if that is OK with you

Sure. I'd be glad to check it and help you in your effort, in that way Philippe Giabbanelli (d) 26 avril 2008 à 07:39 (CEST)
