English: Hyphea of Hyaloperonospora parasitica (downy mildew) growing within the leaf of an incompatible (resistant) Arabidopsis thaliana (cf.wikipedia) observed by bright-field microscopy. The staining with trypan blue makes the dead cells of A. thaliana dark blue. The phenomenon observed is called trailing necrosis: The plant 'kills' its cells in contact with P.parasitica in order to stop its development. The life cycle of H. parasitica is disrupted.
Français : Hyphes de Hyaloperonospora parasitica (Mildiou) dans une feuille d' Arabidopsis thaliana (cf.wikipedia) susceptible (compatible) observée au microscope optique. La coloration au bleu de trypan donne une couleur bleue foncée au cellules mortes d' A. thaliana. Le phénomène observé est appelé trailing necrosis: La plante 'tue' ces cellules en contact avec H. parasitica afin de stopper sa progression. Le cycle de H. parasitica est alors interrompu.
