L'abri Romaní est un site archéologique du Paléolithique moyen situé au Cingle del Capelló à Capellades (comarque d'Anoia, Catalogne).

Il a été découvert en 1909 par Amador Romaní. Il est situé à 350 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer et à 60 mètres au-dessus du niveau actuel de l'Anoia.

Avant la guerre civile espagnole, il est fouillé sous la direction de Norbert Font i Sagué et Lluís Maria Vidal de l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans. À partir de 1950, Eudald Ripoll et Henry de Lumley poursuivent les fouilles pendant une quinzaine d'années. À partir de 1989, les recherches sont reprises par le département de préhistoire de l'Universitat Rovira i Virgili.

[modifier] Principales découvertes

L'abri Romaní a livré un dépôt de 17 mètres de puissance au sein duquel 27 niveaux archéologiques ont été identifiés à ce jour. Ces niveaux correspondent à des occupations moustériennes, liées à la présence de l'homme de Néandertal. Leur âge est estimé à 56 000 ans BP.

La résurgence d'eaux très riches en carbonate de calcium a permis la préservation tout à fait exceptionnelle du négatif de certains éléments en bois. Les éléments ainsi fossilisés permettent d'étudier le travail du bois par les néandertaliens.

De très nombreux foyers ont également été mis au jour. Le site n'a livré aucun reste humain.
