The introduction of Waverley Rugby Football & Sporting Club Inc. (originally known as Old Waverlian Rugby Football Club) into the realms of suburban rugby in 1971 was well received, attracting players from varying rugby backgrounds and providing another option for those who didn’t want to play at the elite level.
Although it was their first year, Waverley was able to provide strong competition for the more established clubs finishing well up the ladder. By the end of the second season the Waverley 1st XV went through the competition undefeated taking out the Walker Cup. Just over 30 years on Waverley entered its first official women`s XV adding a new dimension to the club and in true Waverley fashion the women shook the competition in their first year and so the journey continues…

- Winning the first division club championship is the greatest achievement for any suburban club, but the jewel in the crown is the Kentwell Cup, the first division 1st Grade title. The Kentwell Cup is the highest level of rugby in the Suburban competition.
The success the club has constantly enjoyed over the last 32 years in suburban rugby has laid a solid foundation and set a unique philosophy in place for the future members of the club to embrace and develop. 2007 sees the club in Division three, we are looking forward to a successful four year re-building process and that willtake us forward to being back into the top grade- 1st Division.
At Waverley we will always endeavour to provide our members, supporters and their family and friends with a fun, safe and socially active environment that should enhance the enjoyment of the days sporting events. It will always be the club’s aim to create an atmosphere that encourages interaction between all members and supporters which hopefully will lead to new friendships, business opportunities and the future development of the club itself.
