En 1982, à Vancouver, cEvin Key (Kevin Crompton) et Nivek Ogre (Kevin Ogilvie) créent Skinny Puppy. Dans la même année, ils sortent leur première cassette démo Back and Forth. Puis l'EP Remission en 1984, avec ce qui sera le producteur attitré du groupe : Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. En 1985, pour l'album Bites, le duo devient un trio avec l'apparition de Wilhelm Schroeder, qui sera remplacé par Dwayne R. Goettel.
