Ce tableau est de Frances Anne Hopkins (1838-1919). Le nom original du tableau est Shooting the Rapids qu'on peut traduire par Descente de rapide.

Ce tableau dépeint un rabaska et son équipage dans une descente de rapide. On distingue environ dix-sept hommes et une femme à bord. Le mari de Mme Hopkins travaillait pour la compagnie de la Baie d'Hudson et Mme Hopkins accompagnait son mari lors de ses voyages. Sur le tableau, une femme apparaît à gauche du pagayeur avec une chemise bleue. Probablement un auto-portrait de Mme Hopkins.[1]
