Robert FitzRoy

Le vice-amiral Robert FitzRoy (5 juillet 1805 - 30 avril 1865) est connu comme le capitaine du célèbre HMS Beagle chargé de missions hydrographiques et cartographiques en Terre de Feu. En 1839, il publia simultanément avec Le Voyage du Beagle de Charles Darwin son propre récit Narrative of the Voyage of the HMS Beagle.
Il fut Gouverneur-Général de Nouvelle-Zélande de 1843 à 1845.
Un des premiers météorologistes, auteur de Weather Book, Remarks on New Zealand, il inventa un système de prévisions météorologiques. Il fut également hydrographe.
