[edit] Summary

Description

Henry Moore´s Internal-External Forms bronze (1952-53), Västertorp, Stockholm, Sweden. This is a bronze sculpture, but there is also a wood carving of the same size in the Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art, Pennsylvania, USA. Henry Moore was inspired for this piece of art by wooden carvings from New Ireland, Papua New Guinea: "New Ireland carvings like [a carving commemorating the dead] made a tremendous impression on me through their use of forms within a form. I realised that what a sense of mystery could be achieved by having the inside partly hidden so that you have to move round the sculpture to understand it."
