L’envie de devenir chanteuse s’est éveillée seulement en 2004, après avoir fait une apparition dans la chanson « Hey Now » du rappeur Xzibit. Avant 2004, Keri Hilson était surtout une parolière talentueuse, ainsi que co-productrice pour des artistes comme Usher (« Red Light »), Ciara (« Oh ») Ruben Studdard, ou encore Toni Braxton. Momentanément, Keri travaille avec les producteurs Danja, Polow Da Don, Walter Milsap, ainsi qu'avec Timbaland pour son premier album : "In a Perfect World“, dont la sortie est prévue pour 2008. Elle a aussi collaboré au cinquième album "Come-Back" de Britney Spears ; "BlackOut", pour qui elle a composé entre autres le single "Gimme More".
