Contemporary etching depicting a so-called Hepp-Hepp Riot against Jews in Frankfurt. This was one of the many anti-Semitic riots that took place in Germany in 1819 amidst a climate of anti-Semitism fuelled by various anti-Jewish publications. Participants in these riots rallied to the cry, "Hepp Hepp," which may have been an acronym for "Hierosolyma est perdita," meaning "Jerusalem is lost."

The image dates from 1819, and is so in the Public Domain due to its age.

1819 Hep-Hep riots in Frankfurt. An engraving by Johann Michael Voltz. Two peasant women are assaulting a Jew with pitchfork and broom. A man wearing spectacles, tails, and a six-button waistcoat, "perhaps a pharmacist or a schoolteacher,"[1] holds another Jew by the throat and is about to club him with a truncheon.
