God is an Astronaut est un groupe instrumental post-rock formé par trois musiciens de Glen of the Downs, Comté de Wicklow, Irlande. Le groupe s'est formé 2002 et a réalisé leur premier album The End of the Beginning (2002) avec leur propre label Revive Records. Leur clip de The End of the Beginning et From Dust to the Beyond, ont reçu de récompenses MTV.
All Is Violent, All Is Bright (2005) est leur deuxième album. Il représente leur capacité de passer d'une ambiance sereine à une intensité brûlante, qui est assez proche de leur son en concert. Le single Fragile de cet album a également reçu des récompenses.
God is an Astronaut a réalisé un EP appelé A Moment of Stillness en 2006.
Leur troisième album, Far from Refuge, a été réalisé en avril 2007 par Revive Records et est disponible en téléchargement sur leur site.
