Le coup 4...Fc5 attaque la faiblesse du camp blanc f2 alors que le coup plus habituel est de défendre la case f7 en interceptant la diagonale a2-g8 à l'aide du coup 4...d5.


Karel Traxler (Dubu, 1866-1936), prêtre catholique, joueur d'échecs et problémiste tchèque. Il remporta le tournoi de Vaseli en 1902 en gagnant toutes ses parties et devança le Grand-maître Duras. Il est l'inventeur de la contre-attaque Traxler qui est une variation très animée de la défense des deux cavaliers.
