Chris Sarandon a épousé l'actrice Susan Sarandon (née Susan Tomalin) en 1967. Ils ont divorcé en 1979. Dans les années 1980, il a épousé le mannequin Lisa Ann Cooper. Ils ont eu trois enfants puis ont divorcé.
