中文: 1640年加固城墙后的维也纳.
Français : Vienne vue du ciel depuis le Nord. Copie à l'identique datant de 1640 d'une première gravure de 1609.

Gravure sur plaque de cuivre à l'eau-forte, composée de 3 x 2 feuilles. Taille originale : 795 x 1595 mm.

Titre : VIENNA AVSTRIAE (Vienne en Autriche). Le texte est accompagné des armoiries du duché à gauche et de celles de la ville de Vienne à droite. Une minuscule légende en bas à droite indique : Vißcher excudit. I. Houfnagel fecit. Le logo tout en bas à droite est une dédicace à l'Empereur Ferdinand III.

Caractéristiques de la gravure :

  • Il s'agit de l'une des plus anciennes vues du ciel d'une ville, par opposition aux précédentes vues de profil,
  • la gravure fournit un aperçu très détaillé de la ville et du paysage environnant,
  • on y voit la ville dans son apparence encore médiévale, avant que le style baroque ne s'y impose,
  • on peut également observer les fortifications dont la construction est presque achevée, en prévision des attaques ottomanes (le vieux mur faisant face au Danube, au centre de l'image, n'a pas encore été reconstruit)

Title: VIENNA AVSTRIAE Wienn In Oesterreich. The text is flanked by the coat of arms of the dukedom (left) and the city Vienna (right). The fine print at the bottom-right reads Vißcher excudit. I. Houfnagel fecit.. The logo at far bottom-right contains a dedication to Kaiser Ferdinand III.

Characteristic features:

  • One of earliest bird's-eye views of a city, as opposed to the previously dominating profile views.
  • Detailed display of the city and its sourrounding landscape
  • Shows the then still medieval appearance of the city before the paradigm shift to baroque style.
  • Shows the nearly finished fortification of the city, intended as a defense against the Osman Empire. (The part of the old city wall facing the danube side isn't yet strengthened / rebuilt)

Kupferstich und Radierung, zusammengesetzt aus 3 x 2 Blättern, Originalgröße 795 x 1595 mm.

Titel: VIENNA AVSTRIAE Wienn In Oesterreich. Links des Titels steht das erzherzogliche Wappen, rechts davon jenes der Stadt Wien. Das Kleingeschriebene im rechten Drittel ganz unten lautet: Vißcher excudit. I. Houfnagel fecit. Der rechts unten in eine Kartusche eingefasste Text ist eine Widmung an Kaiser Ferdinand III.

Charakterische Merkmale:

  • Eine der ersten Vogelschauen auf eine Stadt, im Gegensatz zu den davor üblichen Profildarstellungen
  • Miniaturhafte, detaillierte Wiedergabe des Stadtkörpers und seiner Umgebung
  • Zeigt das noch hauptsächlich mittelalterliche Erscheinungsbild, bevor der Barock Einzug hielt
  • Zeigt die bereits bereits größtenteils fertiggestellte Umwallung und Befestigung der Stadt, die zum Schutz der Stadt vor dem Osmanischen Reich dienen sollte. Nur an der Donauseite ist auf dem Bild noch die alte Stadtmauer vorhanden (zu beiden Seiten des Rotenturmtores).
