Jimmy Wilson, né en 1903 ou en 1904, était un homme à tout faire américain noir qui devint célèbre lorsqu'il fut condamné à mort par un jury exclusivement blanc en Alabama en 1958, pour avoir dérobé la somme de $1.95 à une femme blanche, Esteele Barker.[1] D'après le journal Des Moines Register à l'époque, « un officiel du tribunal a suggéré que le jury fut influencé lorsque Mme Barker lui dit que Wilson s’était adressé à elle sur un ton qui manquait de respect ».[2]
La condamnation à mort fut commuée en peine de prison à perpétuité suite à une pression internationale « intense » et à l'intervention de John Foster Dulles.[3][4] Wilson fut relâché en 1973, à l'âge de 70 ans.[5]
