The Middlebush Giant, whose stage name was Colonel Ruth Goshon or Colonel Routh Goshen, The Arabian Giant (real name was Arthur Caley) was billed by P.T. Barnum as the tallest man in the world at 7 ft. 11 in. (sometimes billed as 8 ft.) and 620lbs. His true height was closer to 7 ft. 5. in. and his true weight during the Barnum years was about 400 lbs. He left Barnum because of a disagreement over his billing; the Giant resented being challenged by spectators who disputed Barnum's claims. The Giant spent the last 15 years of his life living on Amwell Road at 'Clyde' (just outside the village of Middlebush).
